Collaborate error: “Unable to launch the application.”


Dear Webinar Portal Users,

Due to a recent java update (Java version 7 (build 1.7.0_51 or 7u51) , the latest version as of January 15, 2014) many of you have possibly had trouble viewing live or on demand webinars when using Collaborate.  We are sorry that you have had these issues.  Java version 7u51 (the latest version as of January 15, 2014) contains security updates that may prevent Collaborate sessions from launching. As a workaround you will need to add NC State’s Collaborate address to the exception site list by performing the following steps:


1.   Launch the Java Control Panel.
*  For Windows PCs:  Click START, then select All Programs, then select the Java folder and finally select Configure Java.
*  For MAC OS X: Click on Apple icon on upper left of screen, go to System Preferences, then click on the Java icon to access the Java Control Panel.
2.    Open the Security tab of the Java Control Panel. The exception site list is shown in the tab.
3.    Click on the Edit Site List button.
4.    Click the Add in the Exception Site List window.
5.    Click in the empty field under Location field to enter http://collaborate.wolfware.ncsu.edu:80
6.    Click OK to save the URL that you entered.
7.    Click Run on the first Security Warning dialog and Don’t Block on the second Security Warning dialog.
