Dr. David Mercker has worked as a professional forester for 38 years, including 13 years in private consulting and 25 years in his current role as Extension Forester with the University of Tennessee. Through Extension programs he educates landowners, loggers, foresters, teachers, youth, and society about sustainable forest management. He is a Fellow with the Society of American Foresters (SAF), has received the National Family Forest Education Award, and was chosen as the 2020 National Extension Forester of the Year. He recently developed a series of educational videos titled ‘Back Porch Forestry’ that offer forestry education in the non-formal setting of his back porch.
