Participants of this webinar learn about the extent of herbicide resistance in important row crops in the southern U.S. and management practices and products that can be used where herbicide resistance occurs.
The appearance and rapid expansion of glyphosate-resistant ecotypes of Palmer Amaranth presents a challenge for crop production across the Southern U.S. This is particularly true for cotton, soybean, and peanuts in no-tillage/strip tillage production systems. However, the potential impact of herbicide resistance goes far beyond this region. With 358 ecotypes from 197 species demonstrating resistance and this number increasing yearly, it is imperative that producers implement strategies of avoiding and managing herbicide resistance to avert problems and limitations that herbicide resistance causes for crop production systems and certain conservation practices. This webinar features a presentation of strategies and practices to manage herbicide resistance and a discussion of preservation of herbicides as a production resource, preventing or delaying herbicide resistance, and dealing with herbicide resistance, where present. In addition, this webinar reviews NRCS roles in pest management and opportunities for NRCS technical and financial assistance related to managing herbicide resistance.
This webinar is sponsored by the USDA NRCS East National Technology Support Center.
