Intensive management using the latest advances in genetics and silviculture can significantly increase the productivity of planted southern pine forests in the Southeast. Forest owners throughout the region are also firmly committed to sustainable forest management that ensures that the critical ecosystems services provided by managed forests, such as carbon sequestration, protection of water quality, conservation of biodiversity and wildlife habitat, aesthetics and recreational opportunities are protected.  Precision silviculture enables foresters to apply the appropriate management regimes to stands that balance the productivity and sustainability objectives of each individual forest owner. This presentation will review precision forestry and how it is currently practiced to accomplish landowner objectives.
