Viewers learn how to plan, supervise, inspect, and maintain a tree planting project.
Successful tree planting begins with a thorough plan. Viewers are instructed on the critical elements of a tree planting plan, including choosing a planting season or date, choosing the best species for the soils and site, preparing the planting site, determining the planting method and equipment, determining tree spacing and arrangement, selecting and ordering the best planting stock, and planning for weed control for at least three years after planting. Follow-up surveys of the tree plantation to guide weed control measures and determine whether replanting is needed are discussed. Tree shelters or bud caps are introduced as a method to protect plantings from herbivores, such as deer or rabbits, that are likely to damage tree seedlings.
This webinar is sponsored by the USDA NRCS East National Technology Support Center.
