A collaboration between the Climate Learning Network and Regional Approaches to Climate Change (REACCH) - Pacific Northwest Agriculture, this webinar will be the fourth installment of a six-part series on Advances in Dryland Farming in the Pacific Northwest. The Nutrient Management and Precision Application Technology webinar is a complement to the Precision Agriculture Chapter of the Advances in Dryland Farming in the Pacific Northwest. The speakers, Drs. Tabitha T. Brown and Erin Brooks, will highlight producer and industry perspectives on how precision agriculture technology is supporting improvements in input use efficiencies and increased profitability.
The Nutrient Management and Precision Application Technology webinar is a complement to the Precision Agriculture Chapter of the Advances in Dryland Farming in the Pacific Northwest. The webinar highlights producer and industry perspectives on how precision agriculture technology is supporting improvements in input use efficiencies and increased profitability. The webinar presents producer descriptions of how management decisions are made using data from precision agriculture technology and on-farm grid or zonal sampling. The use of current and emerging precision agriculture technology to provide on-farm evaluations are also discussed.
About Dr. Tabitha T. Brown
Tabitha is a Postdoctoral Researcher in Soil Science at Washington State University. She was a graduate fellow in the NSPIRE IGERT program (Nitrogen Systems: Policy-oriented Integrated Research and Education). Tabitha has a master’s degree in Soil Science from WSU; her thesis, "Characterizing and managing stratified soil acidity in inland Pacific Northwest Direct-seeded Cropping Systems." In 2002, she received her bachelor’s in Environmental Science (Soil Science concentration) from North Carolina State University.
About Dr. Erin Brooks
Erin Brooks received his B.S. in Agricultural Engineering from Washington State University in 1993, a M.S. in Agricultural and Biological Engineering from the University of Minnesota in 1997, and his Ph.D. in Biological and Agricultural Engineering under the supervision of Jan Boll at the University of Idaho in Moscow. Erin’s research interests include distributed hydrologic modeling, GIS, soil erosion mechanics, water quality monitoring, snow melt and soil freezing processes as related to watershed restoration and evaluation.
About REACCH
The REACCH project was initiated in 2011 to ensure sustainable cereal production in the inland Pacific Northwest. The project was led by an interdisciplinary team of scientists and other professionals from three land grant institutions and the USDA Agricultural Research Service, with funding from the National Institute of Food and Agriculture’s Climate Variability and Change Program. Participants from many disciplines related to agricultural, climate, socioeconomics, and information sciences engaged in an integrated research, education, outreach and extension effort to study complex cereal production systems and their responses to drivers of change.
About the Climate Learning Network (CLN)
The CLN was formed at the beginning of 2015 to promote climate literacy among Extension professionals who work in the areas of agriculture and natural resources and to connect Extension programs within the US Land-grant University System with the 10 USDA Climate Hubs.
