Join this webinar for an overview of forestry taxes including a summary of the different types of taxes that forest landowners pay, terminology used and more! This presentation will also include the ins and outs of classifying your forest land as a business, investment or personal property including how to qualify for a profit motive classification. Presenters will also share their record-keeping tips.

This webinar is the first of five in the "Forestry Taxes: Learn, Plan & Save Money Webinar Series," and presented by an experienced team including Extension forestry tax specialists from Mississippi State University, University of Florida, and University of Georgia; a forestry economist from the USDA Forest Service and a certified Public Accountant/former IRS agent & tree farm owner.

Forestry Taxes: Learn, Plan & Save Money Webinar Series

Many forest landowners pay more taxes on their timber than they should. Accountants can help to calculate taxes, but forest landowners need to understand how timber expenses should be reported, and how they are taxed. When planning your forest management activities, knowing the timber tax rules will help you keep your records in line, and save you money.

abosserman.jpgAndrew Bosserman is a member of the Corporate, Tax and Transactions Service Line, Andrew focuses his practice on structuring business entities and transactions, business entity taxation, federal and state tax controversy, and tax planning. Prior to joining Shumaker, Andrew worked as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) at a top 200 public accounting firm and as an IRS agent examining tax returns, which allows him to understand “both sides of the table”-- auditing businesses and individuals, as well as defending them during an IRS audit. In addition, Andrew owned and operated a tree farm, which contributed to his in-depth knowledge of the Christmas tree and timber industries. When he’s not busy helping clients, Andrew and his wife enjoy hiking in the North Carolina mountains, spending time with family and friends, and volunteering at their local church.
