Participants learn about reasons for slow adoption of soil cover in production agriculture, pros and cons of various seeding methods, use of cover crop mixes, and new plants in use as cover crops.
Cover crops have been around for a long time, but have never been widely adopted in production agriculture. Reasons for this slow adoption and answers to questions on cover crop use left hanging the past 20 years are presented. Tips for seeding success and an introduction to innovative seeding methods used by farmers are covered. These include modification of various over-the-top sprayers or seeders, aerial seeding using planes or helicopters, and adjustments to drills and split row planters. Innovations also include use of cover crop mixes and fine-tuning seeding rates that result in improved nutrient availability.
This webinar is presented by the USDA NRCS East National Technology Support Center.
