The hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA) is a non-native insect that is responsible for the death of millions of eastern hemlock trees in the eastern U.S. This webinar will review HWA biology and management options, with a focus on lands in the southeastern U.S.

The hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA), Adelges tsugae, is one of the most damaging non-native insects in North America, responsible for the death of millions of eastern hemlock trees throughout the eastern part of the continent.  HWA feeding causes slow death of trees, and its characteristic white cottony appearance is easily visible on infected trees.  Death of hemlock trees can change entire ecosystems, with impacts ranging from altered forest composition to increased stream temperatures.  This webinar will cover HWA biology and management options for the southeastern U.S.
